March 30 & 31, 2011 Plumbing and electricity have arrived!
We only had ONE outlet to plug small appliances into, and it was in the baseboard. We had to run an extension cord up to the counter, then could still only plug in one at a time. The entire kitchen is now wired to code, like a brand new home.
We have all new plumbing to the sink and dishwasher. The rotten floor under the sink is repaired. Chuck is still evening out the floor where the new floor's underlayment met the old cabinets about 8 years ago.
The diswasher, fridge, stove, and microhood all have their own brand new designated circuits. The plumbing has been run for the water to the refrigerator.
The ceiling fixture was off center, so that was corrected today. The can lights are wired and will be cut out and installed when the new ceiling is in. Before they trimmed all the excess wire and put the back on the breaker box, the kitchen looked like a pasta factory had exploded.
After removing the drywall, we found the entrance the mousies had been using. There was a gaping hole all around the drain pipe. I could actually feel a cold draft in the cabinets under and beside the dishwasher. That hole and the gap behind the sill plate that ran the entire length of the cabinets on that wall is now stuffed full of steel wool. It will be encased in metal tomorrow. Good-bye mousies!
Instead of a chandelier over the table as before, the box was split for two pendant lights. The new ceiling drywall will cover up the hole.
